About Us

My name is Shannon Helms and I am the Owner/Designer/Creator of Cakin Care of Business. I began this sweet journey in San Diego, CA in 1996 when a friend of mine was a cake decorating instructor with Wilton at a local Michael’s store. She had two ladies that wanted to take the class together but she had to postpone a couple of times because she didn’t have the required three students to hold the class. Here’s where I come in…she asked me if I would be a student for the night so that she could continue with the scheduled class and even offered to pay my class tuition, which I declined. Well, I had no idea that I had a creative or artistic bone in my body until I filled that seat with zero expectations! Immediately following that class, I bought every cake decorating tip and tool I could find and went to work! Fast forward a few decades and I am STILL honing my craft and learning new techniques to offer the best, tastiest ways to celebrate any occasion.

I live in Nebraska on the family ranch my husband, Bryan, grew up on. I am a stay at home mom to two beautiful kiddos. Our daughter, Savannah was born in November of 2018 and our son, Sterling was born in January of 2021.

When I’m not baking and creating tasty things, I love to read, ride my horse and spend time with my family. We are very active in our church and I thank God every day that I get the chance to spread joy and happiness to others with the gift that he has given me!
